Description

OVERVIEW

The AirQuest R4H448GKC is a standard heat pump condenser. Designed with comfort in mind and an inexpensive option for nearly any application, this condenser is considered a good all-around option for almost any application.

QUICK FACTS

  • 4 ton, 14 SEER heat pump condenser
  • Can cool up to a large house in average conditions
  • Single stage compressor
  • Filter drier included to be field-installed
4 Tons

The AirQuest R4H448GKC heat pump condenser has an output of 4 tons, generally enough to heat and cool up to a large house in ideal climates. In many system configurations, the tonnage of the unit’s paired coil or air handler will be larger in tonnage than this condenser, which maintains the efficiency of the unit.
Please note that this condenser cannot function on its own, and it needs an indoor coil or air handler to work. This unit will also only heat down to around 35°F, and if you need heat any lower than this, a backup heat strip will be needed to act as straight electric heating in a compatible air handler.

14 SEER

The AirQuest R4H448GKC air conditioner condenser is rated at 14 SEER, making it between 5-7% more efficient than standard 13 SEER units, saving you money in electric bills over the entire lifetime of your unit. In general, heat pumps will heat more efficiently than straight electric furnaces.

What Contractors are Saying

These Airquest units are attractive and durable. I never hesitate to recommend Air Quest units to my customers when it is time for them to replace their air conditioners or furnaces. They love getting a high quality unit for such a great price.

What Contractors are Saying

Was initially concerned about the Airquest brand as I had heard little about it. My attitude changed completely once I had a look “under the hood”. These Airquest units are as good as any other brand that I’ve seen. Plus, they have all the features and quality details that the more expensive brands have, but at a much more attractive price.

What Contractors are Saying

I’m a long time HVAC technician. I have an Airquest furnace in my basement and an Airquest air conditioner in my yard. I couldn’t be happier with them. Airquest is always the first brand I offer my customers when it’s time for unit replacement. If it works for me, it will work for them, too. And it does!

Questions and Answers

Customer Questions
Who makes AirQuest?
AirQuest is made by the largest manufacturer of HVAC equipment in North America. Over 100 years old, the company is credited with inventing air conditioning and is a household name. We like AirQuest because we see higher quality for the same price other brands charge for lesser products. For example, every condenser has Copeland scroll compressor - the best US-made unit available. They use thicker gauge materials and more cabinet insulation for a more solid, quieter appliance. AirQuest heat exchangers use aluminized steel and have 20 year or lifetime warranties. The engineering, performance, quality and warranty surpasses the competition, all at a lower price with free shipping direct to you.
What happens if this breaks down?
HVACDirect.com gives you lifetime tech support. Many common problems can be solved with a phone call to us. HVACDirect.com is an authorized dealer of AirQuest, therefore equipment we sell carries the full manufacturer's warranty. The warranty applies to all parts. You have to register the products online in order to extend the warranty to the full 10 years, otherwise the term is 5 years. If a part fails under warranty, you will not pay anything for the replacement part. Should a part fail under warranty, the first step is to have a professional confirm what part needs to be replaced. Then, contact us at customerservice@hvacdirect.com or by calling and asking for customer service.
What happens if it arrives damaged?
If you are present during drop-off and you see obvious signs of damage or rough handling in transit - please ask the driver to wait while you inspect the equipment. If it is damaged badly enough that you believe it can not function, you have the right to refuse the damaged portion of the shipment. If you discover the damage after the driver has left, take photos of the damage and send them to customerservice@hvacdirect.com. Please refer to your order number in the email. This starts the process and one of our representatives will be in touch with you promptly.
How can I find an installer?
It’s easier than you think – the key is to find an independent contractor or small company as opposed to a larger HVAC service. A one or two person outfit will do the work more quickly and cheaply than a bigger company, too. Yelp.com, Thumbtack.com, and Porch.com are websites are designed to help you connect with a professional in your area. You could also place a call to the last professional who did work on your home and see if they have any recommendations.
What's the warranty?
AirQuest/ACiQ’s 10 year Warranty (online registration required) is one of the top warranties available today.  Many of the higher-SEER units have even higher warranties and some of the higher efficient furnaces have longer heat exchanger warranties.
I'm looking to replace my Carrier unit and this AQ unit seems to have about the same specs - are they the same product?
AirQuest is made by the same company as Carrier, ICP, as well as brands like Bryant, TempStar and ArcoAire. Many of the internal components can be cross referenced for shared parts. So, yes, apart from the name on the badge – very similar if not identical.
Use this condenser with carrier coil
Yes, that will work however please make sure that you have the correct size coil. If you have aren't sure if your coil is the appropriate size, please call us and we can help you determine the size of your coil.
do they come charged?
The unit comes precharged from the factory for up to 15' of line set however you need a licensed contractor to connect the line sets, vacuum the system, and release the refrigerant.
Is unit pre charged 410A
Yes, it's charged for up to 15ft of copper piping.
I bought the 30 amp disconnect, but the max amp size is 50 amps. Will that be big enough?
To put it simply, yes. A 30 Amp fuse disconnect will be sufficient. The below table outlines the run load amps for the compressor and the fan motor. Combined, it will be 20.4 Amps. (If table does not show, you can find it in the R4H448GKC's specifications sheet on page 3 under "Electrical Data", https://hvacdirect.com/media/hvac/pdf/R4H4-specifications.pdf) You also do not need to worry about the starting current overloading fuses. Fuses used in HVAC applications are known as "time-delay" fuses. On start-up, the equipment will draw approximately 5 times the amperage it has when running. This locked rotor amperage lasts for just a fraction of a second. These time delay fuses are designed to allow a temporary current surge without going above the fuse's current rating, giving the 30 Amp disconnect the ability to operate safely with R4H448GKC's max breaker size of 50 Amps. If you have any further questions, please call us and we will be happy to assist you.
