Mini splits are marvels of energy efficiency, using less electricity than conventional systems, which lose a lot of energy through ductwork.

Factors that force the number of BTUs needed are determined by geographic location, high ceilings, insulatioin, large windows, and open spaces. You should make sure each air handler can cover its assigned zone, and you should make sure the condenser unit can handle the sum total of all air handler's BTUs, albeit with a slight under-rating. This under-rating allows the unit to operate more efficiently and ensure that the run time is sufficient to provide dehumidification.

  • SEER (Cooling) and HSPF (Heating) are standardized measurements of the electrical efficiently between the systems.
  • Proper sizing - the BTU output or Tons (12,000 BTU = 1 Ton) measure the output capacity of a system. The system selected should match both size and location of your home.
