What is a split system? These central heating and cooling systems are called split systems for the simple fact that they use both indoor and outdoor equipment, as opposed to an all-in-one packaged unit that sits outside. In a split HVAC system, the outdoor unit contains air conditioner condenser and the compressor. The outdoor and indoor systems are linked by a copper refrigerant line set which transfers cool air inside the home.
