These models come in two SEER ratings – 13 and 14. SEER is an acronym for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratings, and is an indicator of the unit’s performance versus the amount of energy it consumes. The more efficient the unit operates, the shorter the amount of time it spends in working mode, and the less energy it consumes.
14 SEER is the benchmark for energy efficiency in all 50 states. Air conditioners with a 14 SEER rating or higher can be installed in any state. Air conditioners with 13 SEER or lower are not as universally compliant, and are limited to installation in the northern tier of states only. Installation should also be performed by a licensed HVAC installer, who can verify the unit’s compliance with state codes and help register the product for warranty purposes. But as far as installation goes, it’s easy. AccuCharge Quick Connect refrigerant lines are a real boost to the installation process, resulting in less labor and money savings on the installation fee.
These units range in capacity from 2 ton to 4 ton. In a well-insulated site-built home, these would be considered real powerhouses, but in a mobile home environment, with thin insulation and a metal shell, you need extra capacity. Essentially, 2 – 3 ton units are suitable for small mobile homes, while 3.5 and 4 ton units can handle medium to large living spaces.
These are compressor/condenser units only and are not a complete mobile AC system. You still need an evaporator coil and air handler to complete the installation. Make sure that the other components are in good working order and are compatible with these AC units. It’s often more cost effective replace the full system.
