\Our mobile home heat pump systems are a three-piece combo, including a compressor/condenser that sits outside, an air handler that is installed inside, usually in a specially-designed utility closet and an evaporator coil.
All of the models are 14 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating), which means they can be installed in any of the 50 states. 14 SEER means the unit meets the minimum standard for energy use in an HVAC system.
A heat pump is like air conditioning in reverse. Whereas in summer air conditioning season, heat is absorbed from the indoor air and expelled to the atmosphere, the process reverses itself in the winter, where heat is absorbed from the outer atmosphere and sent indoors. It’s an effective, efficient process, but it has its limits. In wintertime temperatures below 35° F the unit relies on a pre-installed electric coil to supply additional heat.
These electric furnaces range in size from 10 to 30 kilowatts. Not as efficient as the heat pump itself, the size depends on your region’s climate. In southern locales, a smaller furnace might be the best match, and in northern locales, a larger one might be best.
The evaporator coils “match” the condenser in that they work well together. The capacities of the two components do not match as far as BTUs are concerned and that’s by design.
