Mitsubishi mini split AC systems are available in a countless array of configurations to fit your unique needs. Go through your house and decide how many zones it needs for adequate coverage. Typically, one room = one zone, but adjacent rooms can sometimes be grouped together in one zone, or a room plus a hallway or foyer could be considered one zone.

As a rule of thumb, each zone would need 6,000 BTUs (British Thermal Units) for comfort, but large rooms, rooms with inadequate insulation, rooms with large windows, rooms with high ceilings and rooms with open areas (like a pass-through from the kitchen to the den) would need additional BTUs.

The chart on the left shows the many different ways we can match air handlers to their zones. For example, 6+6+9 means the system ships with three air handlers, two with a capacity of 6,000 BTUs and one with a capacity of 9,000 BTUs. The number in parentheses indicates how many systems are available with those configurations.

For most of the U.S. you will need a heat pump for wintertime climate control. Nearly all of our mini split systems include a heat pump, which “reverses” the air conditioning process to extract heat from the atmosphere and distribute it indoors.

Traditionally, heat pumps are not as effective at temperatures below 35° F, but systems featuring Mitsubishi’s patented H2i Hyper Heat pump can be relied on at temperatures as low as -15° F. If you live in an area with harsher winters, look for this feature when you browse our systems.
