- Air Handler: Circulates cooled air throughout the home via ductwork, with optional electric heat kits for backup emergency heating
- Common Uses & Climates: Ideal for homes in hot climates, providing efficient cooling in summer
- Heat Pump: Works with an indoor coil to both heat and cool the home by transferring heat between indoors and outdoors
- Air Handler: Circulates heated or cooled air throughout the home via ductwork, with electric heat kits available as backup emergency heat when the heat pump can no longer efficiently heat the home

- Furnace: Heats air and distributes it throughout the home via ductwork
- Common Uses & Climates: Regions with long, harsh winters and short summers that don't require much cooling, older homes without central AC, when replacing just the furnace in an HVAC system
- Air Conditioner (AC): Responsible for cooling and circulating refrigerant
- Coil System: Absorbs heat from indoor air and allows the refrigerant to cool it before circulating it back into the house
- Common Uses & Climates: Regions with long, hot summers and mild winters that don't require much heating some all-electric homes or mobile homes, when replacing only the AC and coil in an HVAC system
TIPS
Split systems come in four types: AC or heat pump paired with either a furnace or an air handler. If you're only replacing part of your central AC system, you can also choose a furnace-only or AC/coil-only option to match your existing setup.
