Are you able to burn with the doors open to enjoy the open fire and then close for the night when going to bed?

Hello, per the manual on page seven "this fireplace has been tested for use with an open door in conjunction with a fire screen, sold separately. The door may be opened, or fire screen removed only during lighting procedures or reloading. Always close the door or put back on the fire screen after ignition.
