Can I use it in a heatilator fireplace and cut the bottom out?

The Osburn 2700 is not tested to be installed into a pre-fabricated or zero clearance fireplace. The term "heatilator" can often refer to different types of fireplaces that may be capable of using this model. Please give us a call with the model of the fireplace.
