How does pilot light work?

Pilot lights are made by gas being released through a small tube and lighting that gas will allow it to burn at a constant rate. The purpose of the pilot is to provide a flame to light the gas coming out of the main burner. When turned on, a valve releases the gas into the burner and the pilot light ignites the gas to provide heat.
