Is an electric heat required or just an option

Electric heat is optional for the EZ-48-EHPB / EZ-48-AHB system, not required, because the heat pump itself provides both heating and cooling; however, an electric heat strip kit can be added as supplemental or backup heat for very cold temperatures or faster heating performance.
