Is the surround trim kit required? Or can I put stone right up to the unit without the trim kit?

The surround trim is not required. The face of the fireplace can be covered with a non-combustible material (like stone) right up to the viewing area as shown in the installation manual on page 10. Please give us a call if we can help further. Thanks!
