Why can’t the Goodman 16 SEER be used in Louisiana?

16 SEER air conditioning units cannot be used in Louisiana because of the mandates put into effect by the US Department of Energy. When purchasing a new air conditioning unit, residents of states that fall in the Southern US region are required to buy SEER2 certified units. Louisiana is one of many states that fall within the southern region. If you need an AC, you will have to purchase a SEER2 unit. Alternatively, you can also buy a heat pump. As of 6/9/23, there has been no additional mandate pushed stating that you cannot purchase and install a SEER1 (a.k.a. the "regular" SEER) heat pump in the southern region. If you're looking for a new AC unit, I would recommend looking at our selection of heat pumps as not only will they function identically to an AC (only difference being the heating option included that can be used as needed), but a SEER1 heat pump will be much cheaper than a SEER2 AC.
