  1. ACIQ Performance
Bought this unit for my sons house and could not be more satisfied, cools and heats very efficiently compared to his old conventional unit. We did most the installation and hired a licensed HVAC contractor to install new ducting, start up and program. The installer said we purchased one of the best units on the market. I have a very expensive Florida ground loop heat pump system in my house 5 ton and 4 ton installed in 2006 and the ACIQ system kicks its ass. Wish the technology would have been available when we built our house would have saved over $50,000 dollars and tons of labor.

  2. Amazing!
    Super quiet.
Heats my home down under 0 degrees. No joke! I even disabled backup heat to push it to its limit.
Using a Honeywell thermostat instead of the one it came with. Works perfectly as a 2 stage unit attached to the Honeywell. Only negative I can tell you is, i like my fan to run 24x7x365. If the unit is cooling and meets demand the fan continues to run but if the unit is in heat mode and demand is met the fan turns off. Its not a problem just more of an aggravation. Would definately buy again!

  3. 2nd year of significant savings and great comfort.
We purchased oversized by a ton for heat capability without heat strips upon recommendations in our 6,000 ft elevation cold climate. We also have up to 95 degree summers so the AC is used as well and seems to self adjust and not short-cycle, which was my concern with a bigger unit. We previously relied on a combination of pellet stove and propane back-up for heat. This new gen set-up cut our winter heating bills that were usually $400+ per month in over half. It's in its 2nd year now, quiet and comfortable. This system will pay for itself in savings in about two years. I installed it myself and had a tech charge the line set. Had a great experience with HVAC Direct from purchase, shipping and support. Couldn't have been better all around. Much happier with this ducted system than the minis I've used in the past.

  4. Over 1 year in service
Excellent, so far after one year in New Hampshire. Installed myself, replacing a standard outdoor AC condenser. Running dual fuel with oil and a 20 Fahrenheit cut over, savings of 20% over oil alone even with high New Hampshire electricity prices. I have an energy meter on the circuit and this is accurate. Highly recommend it’s whisper quiet outside in the backyard where we hang out a lot.

  5. Amazing!
Love our heat pump unit! It's quiet, it blows with force, and we could see and feel a difference instantly upon installation and first use. I recommend the wal thermostat that is optional with the unit, it's easy to use, and comes with a remote. What's more American than that? Overall, highly recommend. Shout-out to my girl Melinda for sending me to HVAC Direct, and Kevin for helping me get exactly what we need!

  6. impressive performance
I purchased the ACIQ 4 ton heat pump and air handler, this year {2024} in NEO our winter was abnormally cold, temps fell below -22 deg for short periods of time. At 11 deg F our heat Pump would push 106 deg temp, without the heat strips. The overall saving was incredible, a huge reduction in my utility bill. Very please

  9. Excellent Unit Could use better Installation instructions
I will make this short and sweet.
The Unit came in quickly with all needed components. The installation went very smooth up until the low voltage install. (Some of this is my fault for being bull headed being a HVAC tech for years) Do yourself a favor and read the instructions. The instructions have been complained about multiple times (reddit and other forums) a quick Google search and I had everything up and running. Unit is whisper quiet and produces wonderful heat even without Aux Heat Strips. Been installed 2 weeks and went through 1 Ice storm and a small snow storm. Hopefully Unit will give years of worry free comfort.

  11. Great customer service & awesome product
I purchased the 4 Ton ACiQ heat pump (Extreme Heat) and central air handler. I could not be more pleased. Quality of product is really good and can't say enough about the performance it has already shown me thus far. I love the variable nature of the fans and compressor. I'll be buying a 2nd 3 Ton unit pair to replace my remaining system.

  12. So Quiet - Excellent Price / Exceptional Support
Ordered the 4-Ton HP/48K BTU Air Handler system to replace a 26-yo system. Got great help from AD Warren with the wiring. I felt like AD can really make anyone into an HVAC expert!

This system goes into a 2-story 3,200SF home with 2 zones. I needed to replace the old 2-zone HVAC controller with a newer one that supports HP. AD walked me through all the wiring. Both heat and cool worked when tested. The system has been working (in Cool mode) for 2 weeks now.

I hired an HVAC installer to help with installing this. I did most electrical work along with most of the thermostat wiring. The installer turned out to be "new" to heat pump LOL. He said he would be ordering the same system to install for his next customer.

Be extra careful with the wiring on the HP. Read instruction first. However, if you are not 100% sure, I recommend calling HVACDirect support and they will walk you through the wiring.
I took snapshots of all the wiring in case I need to review them in the future (https://photos.app.goo.gl/2F6J8qSMNTiDP7yQ6).

The HP is so quiet comparing to the old system, or any other system in my neighborhood. I need to walk outside in order to tell if the fans are running.

The air handler is very quiet, too. I can hear the wind noise but I can hardly hear the noise of the blower.

    - I did not install the backup heat element.
    - I converted the existing 115V circuit into a 230V circuit. The air handler needs a 230V circuit - even if we do not have a backup heating element.
    - The picture of the air handler next to the HP is very misleading. The HP is so much bigger and it's taller, too.
    - The HP's foot print is only half of the old square unit. However, it's taller and I like it. More space to walk and to pull the garbage cans through.
    - I purchased a set of 4 rubber legs to put the HP on to reduce noise/vibration. However, I really think I didn't need them [or just use the supplied rubber pads (very thin)].
    - Need a new larger 30x60in pan for the air handler.
    - I reuse my 2 existing smart thermostats (Sensi).
    - I am a handy homeowner and I did nearly everything for my houses (electrical, plumping, drywall, floor, etc.) but I never did HVAC before. So that's why I hired one HVAC installer, who turned out to be quite new to HP.

Again, if you are handy and/or have someone that can help you, go for this. Remember to read the installation instruction. HVACDirect support was amazing and AD Warren walked me through all the wiring for HP, air handler and thermostats.

The system has been working for 2 weeks . I hope it will last for 20 years and I never have to think of factory warranty.

My experience has been great so far. Even with the hvac unit delivery being held up do to weather. Not a big deal since we wont be installing for a while as house is still being constructed. I can update further once unit is installed in the fall.

  15. I should have gotten one sooner!
I installed the 3 Ton 18 SEER ACiQ Inverter Heat Pump Condenser with a 5 ton coil that matched my furnace box. The service manual has a chart to set the pressures to based on Temperature when at stable high cool/heat. I have it setup as a dual fuel configuration with my ancient 60% furnace. I am in Iowa and we get negative Temps. This heat pump has already saved me hundreds of dollars on my heating bill.

  30. Great system, but read this review for tips and caveats
I replaced my old R-22 heat pump with the ACiQ-48-HP & AH this past weekend. The new system comes fully charged with R-410a and you’ll only need to add a small amount to account for your line set.

Several things of note, the system is very sophisticated with microprocessor controls on both the heat pump and the air handler. If you aren’t familiar with twisted/shielded communications I recommend you do some homework to understand that first because this system uses a comm. bus to start/run/change modes, etc. My existing thermostat is a gen. 3 Nest which worked with the system but did have to be setup a bit differently to account for the ‘intelligence’ in the new system. The two things that are a bit different are the orange wire that normally causes the reversing valve to energize in cooling mode (typ. on most heat pumps) is not used at all, so be sure to remove it from the Nest. The other change is the Nest’s ‘Aux/W2’ terminal needs to be connected to the AHU’s control board at either of the CN22 connector’s terminals. Use the ‘Pro Setup’ option on the Nest and configure it to have your correct number of heat and cool stages without telling Nest it is controlling a heat pump. Sounds a little odd I know, but trust me you’ll understand if you do otherwise. Essentially, you will be ‘dumbing down’ the Nest slightly but the ACiQ system more than makes up for this in operational efficiency.

The outdoor (heat pump) unit is extremely quiet and the dual fans will gyrate back-and-forth upon startup, but this is normal before they both begin spinning the same direction. You will have to strain to hear the compressor start, but that one of the ‘magical’ tricks of having inverter drives on HVAC equipment. Same applies to the AHU’s fan. You will barely hear it start.

The system comes with a remote that is only used to change the static air pressure setting for the AHU fan. I left mine at the default value and am quite pleased with sound and performance as it is.

The biggest takeaway from this review is “don’t overthink the thermostat wiring or power wiring”. Connect main power to the outdoor unit, pull a 14ga pair (with ground) to the AHU, pull a 22/2 shielded communication cable between both units (ground the shield on ONE END ONLY. This isn’t covered in the included manual, but grounding a shield at both ends cancels out the function of a shield in communication cables. Also, DO NOT run communication cable in the same conduit with power wiring. The electrical noise induced will mess up the communications.

One last thing…make sure you have a tubing bender for 5/8” copper. Trying to bend that stuff by hand will likely result in collapsed tubing that’ll have to be repaired.

    Best of luck!
