Replacement large particle pre-filter for standard size Austin Air purifiers, in black. It wraps the outside of the main filter and takes the first pass at the air, pulling out dust, hair, pet dander and anything else over roughly 10 microns.

This is the part that keeps your main filter working. Austin Air filters are rated for up to five years, and they get there because the large debris never reaches them. Once a pre-filter loads up it chokes airflow and pushes that job onto the HEPA media, so the recommendation is to change it about once a year while the main filter stays put. Houses with pets, a lot of dust or heavy pollen seasons will go through them faster.
