The Federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)

On January 1, 2023, the Inflation Reduction Act expanded the amount of federal income tax credits you can claim for energy-efficient home improvements, including HVAC equipment and high-efficiency ducted heat pump systems. These tax credits are 30% of your total purchase and installation costs for up to $2,000. Additional credits may be available based on your income.

  • Equipment must be on the CEE List of Tier 1, 2, 3, or 4 heat pumps to qualify for the tax credits. Energy Star heat pumps are not required, but all Energy Star equipment DOES qualify.
  • The CEE List of qualifying mini splits only includes multi-zone equipment, as it is designed to support increased whole-home efficiency. Single Zone mini splits do not qualify.
  • Equipment Requirements for the 25C Energy Tax Credit:
    • ALL of United States: 16 SEER2 or Greater
    • Southern United States: 12 EER2 or Greater
    • Northern United States: 9 EER2 or Greater
    • Southern United States: 9 HSPF2 or Greater
    • Northern United States: 9.5 HSPF2 or Greater
