Multiquip MQD2HA 2-Inch Diaphragm Pump

The Multiquip MQD2HA is a 2-inch diaphragm pump designed for moving muddy water, sludge, sewage, and other debris-laden fluids that can be difficult for conventional centrifugal pumps to handle. Its positive displacement diaphragm design provides dependable fluid transfer and can continue operating without damage when running dry.

Powered by a 3.5 HP Honda GX120 gasoline engine, the MQD2HA delivers up to 50 GPM with a maximum lift and head of 25 feet. Its compact pump end, oil-bath lubricated gear drive, integrated wheel kit, and durable aluminum construction make it well suited for construction-site drainage, excavation, farms, irrigation, flood response, septic applications, and other demanding dewatering jobs.

Product Features:

  • 50 GPM pumping capacity: Moves up to 50 gallons per minute for dependable jobsite and drainage applications.
  • 25 ft. maximum head and lift: Provides up to 25 feet of pumping head and suction lift for practical dewatering applications.
  • 2-inch connections: Features replaceable 2-inch NPT male suction and discharge ports for compatible hoses and fittings.
  • Positive displacement diaphragm design: Handles muddy water, sludge, high-viscosity liquids, and debris-laden fluids while maintaining strong self-priming characteristics.
  • Durable diaphragm: Uses a thermoplastic Santoprene diaphragm designed for flexibility, abrasion resistance, and long service life.
  • Heavy-duty pump construction: Sand-cast aluminum housing provides durability while supporting efficient fluid flow and rapid priming.
  • Honda GX120 engine: Powered by a 3.5 HP, 119 cc air-cooled four-stroke OHV gasoline engine with recoil starting and low-oil shutdown protection.
  • Oil-bath gear drive: Enclosed gears, pinions, and support bearings receive continuous lubrication for smooth pump operation.
  • Dry-run capable: The diaphragm pump design allows the unit to run dry without damage, making it useful where intermittent fluid levels can interrupt pumping.
  • Easy transportation: Integrated heavy-duty solid wheels and a tubular steel handle simplify movement around demanding jobsites.

What Is a Diaphragm Pump?

A diaphragm pump uses the reciprocating movement of a flexible diaphragm to create suction and discharge pressure. Unlike many centrifugal pumps, a diaphragm pump is well suited for fluids containing mud, sludge, sand, and other debris. The MQD2HA's positive displacement design also provides strong self-priming performance and allows the pump to operate dry without damaging the diaphragm pump mechanism.

Performance and Fluid Handling

The MQD2HA provides a maximum pumping capacity of 50 GPM and a maximum head of 25 feet. Its 2-inch suction and discharge ports support efficient fluid transfer, while the diaphragm design is intended for demanding low-flow and seepage applications where maintaining prime is important.

The pump is designed to handle fluids up to 180°F and is intended for dirty water, muddy water, sludge, sewage, standing water, excavation drainage, flood response, irrigation, and similar applications. The latest Multiquip specification sheet lists maximum solid handling at 1.25 inches.

Diaphragm and Pump Construction

The pump uses a thermoplastic Santoprene diaphragm for flexibility and durability. A dual-check-valve arrangement uses separate check valves for the suction and discharge sides, helping maintain prime and supporting reliable startup. The suction priming chamber helps optimize flow while accommodating momentary pressure demands within the pump.

The sand-cast aluminum pump housing provides a durable and relatively lightweight pump end. The enclosed two-stage forged gear-driven transmission operates the pump at approximately 60 strokes per minute and uses oil-bath lubrication for the gears, pinions, and support bearings.

Honda GX120 Engine

The MQD2HA is powered by a Honda GX120 air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder OHV gasoline engine with a 119 cc displacement. The engine is rated at 3.5 HP for the pump application and uses recoil starting, a centrifugal governor, dual-element air filtration, and a low-oil shutdown system.

The 0.7-gallon fuel tank provides approximately 2.7 hours of continuous operation at the specified fuel consumption. The engine uses SAE 10W-30 oil with a 0.63-quart oil capacity and is designed for dependable operation in demanding outdoor applications.

Priming and Operation

The MQD2HA's diaphragm configuration provides self-priming characteristics that are particularly useful when pumping from areas containing heavy debris or intermittent water flow. A neoprene check valve helps retain water in the pump casing and maintain prime for easier startup.

For heavy-debris applications, the pump should be flushed after use to reduce the possibility of debris buildup or clogging. The pump should also be operated on a suitable, stable surface and within the manufacturer's specified fluid-temperature and application limits.

Transportation and Jobsite Use

A heavy-duty wheel kit with solid flat-free wheels and a tubular steel handle is integrated into the pump package for easier movement around construction sites, farms, excavation areas, and drainage locations. A center lifting point provides an additional handling option when the unit needs to be positioned or relocated.

Warranty

The Multiquip MQD2HA pump is backed by a 2 Year Warranty from the date of purchase. The Honda GX120 engine carries a 3 Year Warranty, while hoses are covered for 3 months, subject to Multiquip's applicable warranty terms and conditions.

Heavy-Duty 2-Inch Diaphragm Pump for Mud, Sludge, and Debris-Laden Water

The Multiquip MQD2HA is a professional-grade 2-inch diaphragm pump engineered for difficult dewatering applications involving muddy water, sludge, silt, sand, sewage water, and other high-solids fluids. Its positive-displacement diaphragm design delivers up to 50 gallons per minute with a maximum suction of 25 feet and maximum head of 25 feet, making it especially effective in slow-seepage applications where conventional centrifugal pumps may have difficulty maintaining prime.

Designed to handle challenging fluids, the MQD2HA can pass solids up to 1.25 inches in diameter and pump liquids at temperatures up to 180°F. The high-efficiency thermoplastic Santoprene diaphragm provides the flexibility and durability needed for demanding pumping conditions, while dual check valves on the suction and discharge sides help maintain prime and support dependable fluid movement.
