Clean burning, non-catalytic wood burning stoves introduce new oxygen into the firebox before the smoke leaves the stove. The new oxygen is ignited, creating a secondary burn. This generates more heat and creates a cleaner burn. A wood burning insert will turn an inefficient open fireplace into a productive heat source. An open fireplace often pulls more heated air (that you already paid to heat) from your home than it produces. Most wood burning inserts will burn between 70% and 85% efficient. This increase in efficiency means you will get much longer burn times and get much more heat while using much less firewood. Less work, more gain. The included blower will give the insert a boost and push heat into your home more quickly.

Customer Questions
Do you have people that will give estimates and measurements here on the Central Oregon coast?
We do not offer these services as we are not installers, just sellers of the equipment. A local contractor who you can hire to do the job should be able to provide you with those services as well. If you have any further questions, please call us and we will be happy to assist you.
How much soot does this stove produce?
This appliance produces 1.54 grams per hour of emissions that can turn into soot. In comparison, an older stove or open burning fireplace can produce 30-50+ grams per hour of emissions. This appliance produces 1.54 grams per hour of emissions that can turn into soot. In comparison, an older stove or open burning fireplace can produce 30-50+ grams per hour of emissions. If you have any further questions please feel free to give us a call! Thanks.
Is the blower a variable speed or just on or off ?
The blower is heat activated and controlled by a 3 position switch with a high, low and off options. If you have any further questions please feel free to give us a call! Thanks.
Is this a zero clearance fireplace?
The Osburn OB02028-Matrix is intended to be installed into an existing wood burning fireplace. It cannot be installed into a wood framed cavity as is typical of a zero clearance fireplace.
What size wood insert is right for my home?
Choosing the right size wood insert depends on both your heating needs and the dimensions of your existing fireplace. Be sure to measure your fireplace’s width, height, and depth, then compare those to the minimum fireplace dimensions listed on each product page to ensure a proper fit. Generally, small inserts heat up to 1,500 sq. ft., medium inserts cover up to 2,500 sq. ft., and large inserts can heat areas larger than 2,500 sq. ft., though actual performance varies based on factors like firewood type, room layout, ceiling height, and insulation.
Do I need a chimney liner for my wood stove or fireplace insert?
A stainless steel chimney liner kit is always recommended when installing a wood-burning fireplace insert or freestanding stove in a masonry chimney. The liner ensures a consistent and safe flow of exhaust gases, improving the draft and overall efficiency of your appliance while protecting your chimney from heat and corrosion. Using a chimney liner helps maintain safety and enhances stove performance.
Do any wood inserts qualify for a federal tax credit?
Yes, wood-burning inserts that meet government efficiency standards and qualify for the 30% federal tax credit are clearly marked at the top of each product description on HVACDirect.com. You can also view all qualifying models in one place at https://hvacdirect.com/stoves/tax-credit-stoves.html to find the best option for your home.
What is a faceplate or surround for a fireplace insert?
A faceplate, surround, or trim kit is used with fireplace inserts to cover and close the gap between the insert and the fireplace opening. It helps create a clean, finished look while ensuring a proper fit, and should be sized slightly larger than your fireplace’s width and height. Various sizes are available to match common fireplace openings for a seamless installation.
Do I need a blower for my fireplace insert?
A blower is a great addition to a fireplace insert that helps boost heat output and improves efficiency by circulating warm air more effectively throughout your room. While most inserts can operate without a blower, adding one is beneficial if you want faster, more even heating. If extra heat isn’t necessary, your insert will still work well without a blower.
Where on the unit does the blower cord come out and is there an option to hide it?
The included power cord is 96" and can be routed through either side of the fireplace insert and be routed with a non-combustible cord cover. Please give us a call if we can help further. Thanks!
