Purchased this system in the spring on 2021 and it worked fine until the fall of 2023. The first problem was a leak inside the outside unit, a small line for a pressure switch developed a crack, likely caused by compressor vibration, (Warranty does not cover labor or refrigerant, a 500 dollar expense). The next problem occurred in January of 2024, which was a bad inverter board on the top of the unit. After 3- weeks of contacting Mr. Cool a new inverter board was shipped to me ( I had to pay shipping costs). The inverter heat sink was also melted, which should have been replaced along with the new inverter board, no thermal transfer pasted was included with the inverter board. Is this system efficient? YES. However, the repair costs, so far, outweigh the efficiency savings.

Please with unit so far. Fan noise can be an issue.
System installed late November 2023. Carefully followed the instructions for connecting the pre-charged line set. The unit is running without issues and performance is better than expected. Instructions for altering Air Handler fan speed are unclear and a bit confusing. Operating the system in the 4-ton setting to reduce fan noise in the home. Outside unit noise is quieter than expected. Will update review in 6 months.

Works well even in the cold
I've had it one year now. The temp is 22 degrees and its toasty warm in my basement. The total area isn't all that well insulated (but finished) and its around 2k sq. ft. The system doesn't even take that long to get up to temp. Noise level is moderate.
It took some figuring to get the main AHU to sit in place of the previous furnace and the electrical hookups are not well laid out in the manual. The precharged lines worked great though I didn't measure perfectly and had to return the one set for a longer one.
I rarely use the AC in the basement, but it cools very quickly. The fan is pretty strong but the AHU is relatively quiet.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the product so far. If you are decently mechanically inclined and understand basic electronics this should be relatively easy to install.

HVACDirect.com were great in purchasing prosses the system was dilevered fast and packaged great. then I was reffered to mrcool to resolve a defict product
First day after install the universal 4 ton complete system the heat was not working. 3 months later mrcool would go back and fourth about the wiring, they don't have techs to test the system, terrible in returning calls. repeating same thing. I sent pictures of the wiring. time and time again they have suggestions that the installer knew will not work or change the fact this is defect machine
mrcool don't honor their warranty . all winter with no heat. 2 other HVAC techs who were just playing with the wires blaming the installer luckily I have pictures to show they are doing the same thing!! paid extra for 2 service calls with no resolve. don't buy mrcool they are the worst. no real support and they don't back their product.

Purchase was great
The purchase was great. The delivery driver though just left it in front of the business without contacting me or anyone at the location to see where we wanted it dropped off. That could have been much better service, but that’s not on you. The equipment is great. I’m loving the Mr. Cool pre-charged stuff. This is now the second auditorium of this theatre location with Mr. Cool equipment.

Don't buy
Have had this system for almost 6 months and had nothing but problems with it from the start. Got everything sorted out except for the air handlers Main board is bad. Got sent a replacement and that is also bad. Mrcool service is an abomination and they do not want to help you or repay you. If you want something reliable buy a different company's system not mrcool. This has made going through winter miserable.

Outstanding service, shipping
First, the service people their respond quickly; they handle issues and correct problems. Secondly, as for my post about wiring, glad they don't provide details - not really something anyone but an electrician should handle.
I will note something from the manual and hope someone corrects me if this isn't right - the air handler dip switch (Heat) only controls the fan speed in that unit and technically, doesn't directly control the 5 to 4 ton conversion. Rather, this is used relative to what the duct work can handle - see the manual supplied with the system for details.
Do note that the thermostat requires six (6) wires - that is a connection for C, B, W1, R, G, & Y. The outside condenser unit - which uses a std five wire cable, requires its 'Y' connection wire to go directly to the thermostat.
Shipping is super fast and the company they used delivered it where I wanted it and called ahead.

Overall Good Unit and fairly straight forward installation
A lot of nice things about the system; however, the refrigerant lines are absolute bears to bend. Also, their web ordering site is extremely bad - does not show that one selected the pre-pressurized line (hides it with the furnace header) so one can easily think they need to order the line separately on the extra's display; then you get two sets and YOU pay for the return despite their screwed up ordering software. No instructions on a lot of the electrical hook up and difficult to locate guidance on breakers required. The add on electric heat backup has good instructions on unit's physical install but zero instructions on hookup to the breaker box or wire gauge needed to the unit.

very please with the new unit
The MrCool 5 ton heat pump arrived well packaged but the transport co. Made no attempt to let me know he arrived even though I was working in the garage with the door open with music playing. I noticed he was at my mailbox just moments before he drove away leaving a 500 lb crate next to the road. I had planned on transferring the pallet to my pickup and then unloading it where it was to be installed. So that was a difficult predicament but managed to work it out. Installation of the unit was fairly simple except for running the pressurized tubing through and up a wall, through ceiling rafters, and down to the air handler, then figuring out how to dress the excess of outside the 50 ft. Wiring was easy but the provided diagram was not totally accurate. Customer Service was reasonable and very helpful for email answers. Yet, if I needed same day answers I would not be happy, to say the least. I was fortune enough to be able to install the system in parallel with the existing system to verify proper operation before removing the old unit. So far, we are very pleased with the new unit, especially the more powerful blower and the quietness of both the inside and outside units.

Thanks again!
The Mrcool heat pump and line set are working flawlessly. I did the whole install myself at 67 and it was fun. My furnace was in the attic of my two story house with no 220volts and zone thermostat controls, so the install had some challenges. The equipment arrived super fast with good communication. Very impressive packaging bolted to a custom pallet, wrapped with 1"+ cardboard and shrink wrapped. Arrived without a scratch and was placed in my garage. Thanks again for a great price, fast delivery, and impressive packaging!

I have been in the HVAC trade for 40 years and worked with just about everything from large chillers to -80 freezers over the years. I was very impressed with the Mr Cool system and will continue to recommend this product to others.

Love it
I LOVE this unit. It puts out more volume than my old carrier unit. This Mr. Cool unit is great, it was an easy installation but did take 2 and a half days which was longer than I expected, but I am a bit picky about about things being perfect. And I also built a new plenum to fit it better. You should highlight these units on your sight. I do recommend it to everyone with A/C problems that I meet and I also always highly recommend HVAC Direct. Your response to my shipping issues was impeccable and extremely appreciated.

Very fast
Thanks for following up. I just had the system installed over the weekend. Everything is working properly so far. The shipping was very fast. Your website indicated shipping was 2-3 weeks, but it was shipped the next business day from ordering. I was impressed by that.
The only issue I ran into is the inaccuracy of the installation manual. The control signal wiring diagram in the air handler manual shows the connection of the D (Defrost) signal connecting to the D signal of the condenser. However, there is no D signal on the condenser. I just did not wire up the D signal for now. I emailed Mrcool support on Saturday, and is awaiting for the reply.

Excellent Unit. Easy to install.
I just installed my first AC system and selected the Mr. Cool for a variety of reasons, but chief among them was that you can get pre-charged lines and do it yourself without any special equipment.
The product shipped on time and showed up in good shape. We dropped the condenser on a small concrete pad and installed the air handler in the basement. Then we learned about duct board ( if you haven't used it - buy the tools, use it, love it ) and installed the lines.
After doing a bit of electric wiring the system came online and worked right away. Excellent value for the price.
The only thing I'd change:
1. The instructions are a bit unclear on the low voltage wiring pin-out. The yellow wire needs to be connected DIRECTLY from the thermostat to the condenser. The wiring diagram makes it seem otherwise.
2. Modern thermostats switch between B and O ( AC and heat ) in software. Make sure the bit is flipped in your Nest or you'll be confused when the AC blows hot.
3. You need to build your own filter housing. This is stupid, but is the way it is.
All in all, a nice unit. Easy to install yourself and a great value for the money. Would buy again.

Works great
I needed to replace my central air and after having a mrcool mini split in m to garage for almost two years and having been impressed with it I figured I would get this for my house. Installation was pretty easy other than the weight, the only issue I had was hooking up the thermostat. Once the thermostat was hooked up everything has worked great for the last two months.
