Does it matter which side of the furnace / coils the filter goes?

The filter rack should be installed right before the air enters the furnace. Installing it here will catch any debris before it hits the furnace and coil, protecting it from any potentially harmful airborne particles.

Nice filter box. Very strong and capable of supporting furnace and coil. My only negative observation is the screws on the bottom caused some leveling challenges that had to be overcome. I would have also liked the option of installing a 4" or 5" filter. There is plenty of space in the box to accommodate additional filter choices.
