The pilot light on the heater must be manually lit with a push-button igniter before the burner will operate. The model PSA265VE will auto light the pilot light. The in-ground post base makes for a secure installation. The in-ground post base also takes up less room on your deck or patio. The typical spacing on this heater is about 12' apart.
