- it works wellI got an 18k BTU Mitsubishi. It cools very well. I have it in a 1,700 sq ft, two-story home; it is downstairs in the living room. It cools the entire downstairs very well; it also cools the upstairs, but by about 15 more than the downstairs. We had a 106-degree heat wave for 3 days, and the upstairs stayed about 88, and the downstairs was at 73. So I was definitely maxing it out. I will say the head unit on the wall is quite bulky and does not look as good as I expected. I don't really know if that is because I got a large 18k unit or if a 12k would have also been as bulky. There are other head unit options, but they do cost more. So I guess it is hard to have your cake and eat it too.
