3.5 Tons
The Goodman AMST42CU1400 air handler is rated for an output of 3.5 tons. In many cases, the tonnage of the air handler will be larger than the condenser that it is naturally paired with. This is intentional, and is to maintain the overall efficiency of the unit. While the unit does require a condenser to function as part of a heat pump or air conditioner, heat strips may be installed in the air handler to provide straight electric heating, which can be used as an electric furnace on its own or as a backup heat option for a heat pump setup.

The AMST42CU1400 comes with Goodman's standard 10 year parts warranty when registered online through the manufacturer. - Excellent HVAC systemReplaced 18 year old 3.5 ton HVAC in modular home. DIY accept for pressure test, vacuum, & adding additional refrigerant. Saved at least $3,500 over estimate for a lesser capacity system. Goodman is at least 2X better than what came with the home. Heats & AC quickly, reasonably quiet. Completely satisfied.

- Ok overallSo far so good. It has been in service for only 2 weeks as a heat pump. I hope it works well in AC mode as well. Some sort of feet on the bottom of the unit to help leveling and reduce vibration would be nice.
