The Austin Air HealthMate Jr. Plus in Black is built for chemical and VOC problems in smaller rooms. It shares the cabinet, 200 CFM motor, and 30 sq. ft. of medical grade HEPA with the standard HealthMate Jr., and swaps in a different carbon canister. One unit covers up to 700 sq. ft. at two air changes per hour, or roughly 300 sq. ft. at four changes per hour.

Inside is over 6.5 lbs. of activated carbon, carbon treated with potassium iodide, and mineral-based media. Standard carbon handles general odors and gases well but falls short on formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, and acrolein. The treated carbon covers those. They come off new flooring, pressed wood furniture, fresh paint and adhesives, cleaning and salon products, tobacco and wildfire smoke, and traffic exhaust. New construction, a recent remodel, a home near industry or a busy road, or chemical sensitivity all point to this model over the standard Jr.

The 360-degree intake pulls air through all four sides of the cabinet, then through two pre-filters, the carbon canister, and true HEPA. Operation is a manual 3-speed dial at 50, 100, or 200 CFM. At about 18 lbs. the unit is easy to relocate, and the filter pack is engineered for up to five years of normal residential use. Assembled in Buffalo, New York.
