Austin Air HealthMate Plus Junior Machine - Sandstone

The Austin Air HealthMate Jr. Plus in Sandstone is the VOC and chemical model in Austin Air's compact lineup. It uses the same steel cabinet, 200 CFM motor, and 30 sq. ft. of medical grade HEPA as the standard HealthMate Jr., with a different carbon canister. Coverage is up to 700 sq. ft. at two air changes per hour, or about 300 sq. ft. at four changes per hour.

The canister holds over 6.5 lbs. of activated carbon, carbon treated with potassium iodide, and mineral-based media. The treated carbon pulls out formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, and acrolein, which plain activated carbon does not handle well. Those compounds come off new flooring, pressed wood furniture, paint and adhesives, cleaning and salon products, tobacco and wildfire smoke, and vehicle exhaust. Choose this model over the standard Jr. for new construction, recent remodels, homes near industry or heavy traffic, or diagnosed chemical sensitivity.

Air enters through 360-degree grilles on all four sides, then passes through a large particle pre-filter, a medium particle pre-filter, the carbon canister, and true HEPA. A manual 3-speed dial delivers 50, 100, or 200 CFM. The unit weighs about 18 lbs. and moves between rooms easily, and the filter pack is rated for up to five years of normal residential use.
