Advanced HEPA Air Purifier with Enhanced Carbon for VOC, Formaldehyde & Chemical Removal
The Austin Air HealthMate Plus in Black is the VOC and chemical version of Austin Air's flagship air cleaner. Same steel cabinet, same 400 CFM motor, and the same 60 sq. ft. of medical grade HEPA as the standard HealthMate. It covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. at two air changes per hour, or roughly 700 sq. ft. if you want four changes per hour in a room with a heavier chemical load.
The canister holds 15 lbs. of activated carbon, potassium iodide impregnated carbon, and mineral-based media. Standard carbon does a good job on odors and general gases but falls short on formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, and acrolein. Treating the carbon with potassium iodide is what extends the range to cover them. Those compounds are exactly what comes off new flooring, pressed wood furniture, fresh paint and adhesives, salon and cleaning products, tobacco smoke, wildfire smoke, and highway exhaust. New construction, a recent remodel, a home near industry or a busy road, or diagnosed chemical sensitivity all point to this unit over the standard HealthMate.
Everything else is the platform Austin Air has been building since 1990. Air enters through 360-degree perforated grilles on every side of the cabinet, moves through two pre-filters, then the Plus carbon canister, then true medical grade HEPA. A manual 3-speed dial is the only control, quiet enough to sleep beside on low and up to 400 CFM on high. Casters are standard, the bottom plate comes off for filter access, and the pack is engineered for up to five years of normal residential use. Assembled in Buffalo, New York.
