Austin Air HealthMate Standard Unit - White

The Austin Air HealthMate in White is the brand's original air cleaner and still the best all-around pick in the lineup. One unit is rated to cover up to 1,500 sq. ft. at two air changes per hour, which handles a master bedroom, a living room, a finished basement, or most of a small apartment on its own. The white finish disappears against light walls and trim, so it works well in nurseries, bedrooms, and rooms where a black or metallic cabinet would stand out.

The cabinet takes in air on all four sides through 360-degree perforated steel grilles, then moves it through four filtration stages. Stage one is a large particle pre-filter for visible dust, hair, and pet dander. Stage two catches pollen, mold, and spores. Stage three is 15 lbs. of granular activated carbon blended with zeolite, which handles the things HEPA cannot: smoke, cooking and pet odors, chemical vapors, and everyday VOCs off furniture and cleaning products. Stage four is 60 sq. ft. of true medical grade HEPA for the sub-micron particles that trigger allergies and asthma.

Everything runs off a manual 3-speed dial. Low is quiet enough to sleep next to, and high moves up to 400 CFM when you need to clear a room fast. The permanent split capacitor motor is mounted on shock absorbers and rated for continuous duty, so leaving the unit on around the clock is the intended use rather than a stretch. Casters come standard for moving it between rooms, the bottom plate lifts off for filter access, and the filter pack is engineered for up to five years of normal residential use. Every HealthMate is assembled in Buffalo, New York.
