More About Pellet Stoves & Inserts

Pellet stoves and Pellet Stove Inserts have grown in popularity among homeowners looking for an eco-friendly, efficient alternative to conventional heating methods. Compressed wood pellets are burned in these cutting-edge heating appliances to provide steady warmth while lowering heating expenses and your carbon footprint.

Available Types: Freestanding Pellet Stoves & Pellet Stove Inserts
How do they work? Pellets can be poured directly into the appliance's storage hopper. When heat is called for, the pellets automatically feed into the burn pot from the storage hopper by an electric auger, where they are ignited and burned.
Sizing is Key: Determine how much square footage you need to heat taking your home's layout, account for your home's insulation quality, and your local climate to match the stove's heating capability with your heating needs.

Love these stoves. Have two one in house and one in work shop. Both have been very reliable and put out plenty of heat with the right fuel. Low maintenance is a main concern for me and they deliver that consistently.

We bought our Big E in 2010 to heat our 20’ x 32’ living room and it’s never let us down. I’d actually like to buy a new one, but afraid the quality might not be the same. Service of any kind in Ct. is expensive so a good quality low maintenance stove is such a bonus!

My experience with HVACDIRECT has been great and the stove is performing nicely; although here in Ohio we finally had some 35 degree weather at night this being April. I bought the stove in middle March while i was out of state in our Md. home. HVACDIRECT was nice enough to hold shipping until i returned to Ohio April 1st. It arrived a couple days later, nicely crated and packed with no damage. Very quick shipping. I first started it last night and of course had some operator error. However now running on 2 position it is heating our home very well! Thanks HVACDIRECT for what i believe to be a good buy and pleasant experience...

What size pellet stove do I need?

Pellet stoves are easy to control with a thermostat or remote, allowing you to adjust heat output as needed. Keep in mind that pellet stove performance varies with heat settings, outdoor temperatures, home layout, and insulation quality.

Pellet stoves burn wood pellets made from compressed sawdust and other wood waste, which come in bags for easy storage. They feature a hopper to store pellets, an auger system to feed fuel into the combustion chamber, and a fan to circulate warm air, making them a cost-effective heating choice compared to oil or propane.

How do I vent a pellet stove?

Pellet stoves can be vented horizontally through a wall using a 3-inch diameter pellet vent, or vertically with a 3- or 4-inch vent if the vent length exceeds 15 feet. Pellet fireplace inserts use a 4-inch stainless steel chimney liner connected to the insert, topped with a chimney cap and top plate for proper exhaust.

What is a faceplate or surround for a pellet stove insert?

A faceplate, surround, or trim kit is used to close the gap between a fireplace insert and the fireplace opening, creating a clean, finished look. The faceplate should be sized slightly larger than your fireplace’s width and height, and various sizes are available to fit common openings.
