This product is formulated to penetrate and remove dirt and matted material from evaporator coils and fins, eliminating the need for high pressure sprayers and bulky tank sprayers. Upon contact with the surface of the coil, the foaming portion of the product begins to remove the soil from the surface. Rinsing is not required. Dirt is washed away with condensation, leaving the unit cleaned and deodorized. This not only allows your unit to run more efficiently but also prevent dirt, mold, and bacteria buildup.

Many people don't know how important it is to clean your evaporator coil, or even what it is. Keeping your evaporator coil clean keeps your unit efficient and cuts down on mold, bacteria, and allergens in your air. Luckily, you can clean your coil yourself! No need to call a technician. We make it extra easy with our foaming coil cleanser, that will get in between all of those tiny fins without causing damage.
You don't even need to rinse! Simply spray your coil and walk away. Your unit's condensation will naturally rinse the dirt away.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

  1. Turn off or disconnect power to unit being serviced.
  2. Remove the cover on your indoor air handler and locate the evaporator coil.
  3. Test in a small, inconspicuous area before using.
  4. Point opening on spray button toward surface to be cleaned.
  5. Spray until the surface is completely covered and thoroughly saturated.
  6. As the foam breaks down, condensation will rinse the material from the surface.
  7. If the coils do not produce adequate condensation or residue remains, rinse with water/wipe clean.
  8. On heavily soiled surfaces, repeat application as necessary.
  9. When finished, cover the unit and return power to the unit.

When I started cleaning my air conditioner with this I had not read the instructions. Big mistake! It clearly said to start at the bottom and work your way up. There's good reason for that. As this stuff starts to melt away the grime, it collects at the bottom and can block the flow of the grime you're trying to get rid of. Also, follow up with a spray bottle full of water to be sure to get the AC unit as free of grime and this cleaner as possible. This stuff is corrosive and will take the paint right off tools that it may come in contact with, so be careful!

  3. Cleans coil surfaces well, does not clean very deeply

Used an entire can cleaning an LG window unit. Followed instructions, which I didn't feel were completely clear. "The foam will break and condensation will completely rinse the emulsified material". Condensation from the coil? So if the unit hasn't been running and the coils are dry, once it's back in service, the condensation will subsequently rinse it? So I should return it to service at what point?

I cleaned the unit 4 times, trying different ways, including a spray bottle set to a stream. It does rinse out the coils, but only about 3/16" (5mm) deep. The coils are much deeper and the foam doesn't seem to get in there. I tried one of the cycles with the unit on a fan setting to help suck it in and it only made a slight difference. The instructions talk about wiping the coil, but that's only going to get the very surface, not any grime or deposits that are deeper and you risk bending the vanes (very bad thing to do).

It did help with the musty smell, so in that respect it work, but it didn't clean the coils as deep as I would like. The best way is probably to use a pump sprayer (like one of those 1 gallon models used for apply insecticides in the garden, etc) with something that will remove deposits but not damage the aluminum. Some people recommend Simple Green and then rinsing it with water, other people say that will damage the coils. I have no idea.

TLDR version: It works, doesn't clean as deep into the coils as I'd like.

I recently used the Nu-Calgon Evap Foam No-Rinse Evaporator Coil Cleaner to clean my evaporator coil, and I was overall impressed with the product. Here's what I liked:

Convenient and Easy to Use: The no-rinse formula is a major plus. I simply turned off the unit, sprayed the foam according to the instructions, and let it work its magic. No need for extensive prep work or messy cleanup, just a quick and convenient process.
Effective Cleaning: The foam visibly dissolved dirt, grime, and dust on the coil. After letting it sit for the recommended time, I could see a noticeable difference in the coil's cleanliness. My unit seems to be running more efficiently since the cleaning.
Pleasant Scent: While I did choose to follow up with a light rinse using a spray bottle, I appreciate that the product has a mild lemon scent. This is preferable to the harsh chemical odors often associated with cleaners.
