Straight forward install. Basic instructions. Needs better documentation for wiring. I could not get it to work on a Honeywell Tstat but was able to run it with Nest. It uses a "B" signal rather than an "O" signal for the reversing valve. Documentation wiring diagram had different lettering for the air handler. MRCOOL Service sent the same incorrect information in a different format. They acknowledged they knew it was wrong saying " all of our manuals are already in the process of being updated". HCAC Direct was helpful and delivery was surprisingly quick.

I purchased two of these units (3 TON Mr. Cool Universals). The pre-charged line sets were both insulated which is excellent to see. Each unit is connected to an Ecobee. I do recommend these units but there are some things to note. The user manual for the dip switches is horribly confusing as documented. I had exchanged many emails with techs on getting clarity on them. On a positive note, the technicians were patient with my many questions although I get the impression they only repeat what they have been told - they have no direct relationship with the actual engineers. My two units have been running flawlessly for the past year and a half. I can't get over how much more quiet they are. Both units are right below my bedroom window and my hold units I could hear start and run. Mr. Cool units are soft start. I live in Florida where it's HOT and HUMID and zero issues cooling my 4,000 sqft home. One unit handles downstairs and other upstairs. I also went with the 8kw heat kit in each buy in retrospect, I probably didn't need it. I only went with the heat kit because old units had them. Last winter we had to switch to heat and the units had no problem heating just off the heat pump. In the ecobee, I have the aux heat set to come on at 0 F even through Mr. Cool can heat at lower temps, ecobee simply doesn't allow you to go lower.
Had a hard time finding crow's foot adapter large enough to fit my torque wrench. None of the local hardware stores have one that large (ACE, Lowes, Home Cheapo, etc...) Had to go to amazon for it. I also used Nylok on the fittings. This and some foam tape was all I needed to install both units as replacements. Used existing electrical disconnect.

Gas Heat/R-22 AC to Heat Pump Upgrade

Live in Sacramento with cheap local electric and high natural gas prices. I replaced my old gas unit and R-22 with the 3 ton unit. Total cost was $4,200. The unit worked perfect and the variable speed settles down to 6amps on a 95º day in Sac. No problem with capacity and I would recommend the service manual to explore all the settings. I have it setup with an Ecobee which is tricky and I would factory reset vs having to set it up from a gas to heat pump. So far, great unit, looks nice, appears to be well constructed. Ordering was no problem, everything arrived on time, even had to return a few thing without incident. One thing is the air handler is 220volt which I had to convert the outlet which wasn't too hard.

Saved my wallet in all electric house

I bought this unit to replace a 14 seer dying Goodman. We want our first winter in this house experiencing 5 months of $300 electrical bills due to strips being needed to keep up with the cold. This past winter we dropped our electricity by 60% (I can measure direct electricity usage per breaker). Not only did the heat strips never turn on (I have an alert setup to tell me if they do) the house felt amazing, we did not have to think about electricity usage vs comfort cause we were getting the best of both worlds. Since the cost of our kwh went up by 25% our return on investment went from 4yrs to 3! We used the 12 months no interest financing which was also quite nice since we could take the money we had set aside and use it for other things (pro tip, invest the money if you get the chance as you will end up with more than what the project cost).
The most astonishing part was the heat strips never came on when we hit -10 degrees, granted we were out of town so I could only monitor remotely but it was still set to 60 degrees and a couple more wouldn't have made a difference. The unit didn't even run the entire time, it did run 3hrs for one section but during that time the temp stayed right at 60.
Installation was less stressful than a traditional unit. With the pre-charged line set I was able to get everything done using mostly house hold tools. The wiring diagram as someone mentioned was not great and I also had to contact support. But my biggest gripe was the line set size, to purchase a torquing adjustable wrench to match was $300 and 2 weeks lead time. So instead I overnighted some craws feet from Amazon for $15 that fit my automotive torque wrench.
Few suggestions besides the craws feet for wrench, use nylog blue for the threads, it's considered a life saver in the industry! Also if you get snow don't forget to put feet under the unit, I made that mistake and probably hurt my heating ability for part of the winter when I get a huge build up of ice on the back and side of the unit from freezing and thawing snow. Normally the ace I stuck my unit does not get much snow but even with that and the snow never actually reaching the bottom of the unit just having it fly around it and land on top was enough. I highly recommend getting heat strips, not cause this unit needs them but more since it costs $100 to get heat strips and you probably already have the wiring/breakers in place it's a great piece of mind to have.
The air handler was kinda a pain since I had a side flow and this is top or bottom only, I took the opportunity to install a platform with a 5 inch filter to give better filtering ability without reducing the cfm. The unit is not the quietest but it's also not loud, my heat pump hot water tank is louder. If you have to do the same conversion invest in a large roll of aluminum tape and don't be afraid to use a lot of it. It really saved me from the crappy cutting I did to get the sheet metal correct.
One last tip, I got about $150 for cutting the old copper coiling out of the ok indoor and outdoor unit and taking it to the scrap yard.

Purchased this system after my 3rd unit died in my home. This system fit in existing space and only had to open bottom hole a bit to match unit. Outside unit is heavy so be ready to strain. I purchased the pre filled lines and word of warning, they are insulated very well. So this won't slide up into your existing sweep without swaping the insulation on the front half of the lines. Mr Cool allowed this as to not void the warranty. This past winter proved a heat pump can keep my home comfortable with no heat straps. Overall a great system, I would recommend this for a DIY if you don't try to shove the lineset into the sweep without first changing the insulation that goes through your sweep and leave original coming out the home.

I received product from you in good shape and the equipment looks well built. My contractor has them about half way installed at the moment, as the holidays and weather have slowed working days.

In heat mode it is like having a gas heater and not a heat pump. I installed mine as a counterflow/upside down for my mfg home.

Now that we finally have it up and running - it seems to be working fine.
Your wiring diagram could have been more explanatory. It was very difficult to get tech support & they were not very helpful when they did respond.
