High-Efficiency Tankless Water Heater Delivering 7 GPM

The Rheem RTG-70DVLP-3 is a non-condensing tankless water heater designed for indoor installation and liquid propane (LP) operation. It delivers a maximum flow rate of 7.0 GPM at a 35°F temperature rise, with a maximum gas input of 160,000 BTU/h and a Uniform Energy Factor (UEF) of 0.82. Its tankless design heats water on demand. Installation and operation must follow Rheem’s requirements for this specific model.

Key Benefits

  • Enjoy Hot Water on Demand: Heats water as needed, without storing hot water in a traditional tank.
  • Save Space in Your Home: The compact, wall-mounted design helps free up floor space compared with conventional storage-tank water heaters.
  • Understand Energy Performance: This model has a 0.82 Uniform Energy Factor (UEF), a standardized measure of water-heating energy performance.
  • Experience More Consistent Hot Water: Rheem's Hot-Start Programming™ helps minimize cold-water bursts during back-to-back hot-water use.
  • Meet Your Hot-Water Needs: The rated maximum flow is up to 7.0 GPM at a 35°F temperature rise and 6.0 GPM at a 45°F temperature rise. Actual flow depends on incoming water temperature and operating conditions.

Understanding Tankless Water Heater Sizing

Tankless water heaters are sized by flow rate, measured in gallons per minute (GPM), and temperature rise. Flow rate describes the volume of hot water delivered per minute, while temperature rise is the difference between the incoming cold-water temperature and the desired hot-water temperature.

For the Rheem RTG-70DVLP-3, the rated maximum flow is 7.0 GPM at a 35°F temperature rise and 6.0 GPM at a 45°F temperature rise. As the required temperature rise increases, the available flow rate decreases. Actual performance varies with incoming water temperature and operating conditions.

How to Calculate Temperature Rise

To determine temperature rise, subtract the incoming water temperature from your desired hot water temperature. For example, if the incoming water temperature is 55°F and the desired water temperature is 120°F:

120°F - 55°F = 65°F Temperature Rise

Refer to the Water Flow (GPM) chart below to compare estimated flow rates at different temperature rises and determine whether the Rheem RTG-70DVLP-3 can meet your household's hot water demand. This model delivers up to 7.0 GPM at a 35°F temperature rise. Actual flow rates vary depending on incoming water temperature and the selected water heater temperature.

Advanced On-Demand Tankless Water Heating

The Rheem RTG Series is a high-efficiency, non-condensing tankless gas water heater designed to provide hot water on demand without a storage tank. With a 0.82 Uniform Energy Factor (UEF), it delivers efficient performance for residential applications.

Available in natural gas and liquid propane models, the RTG Series offers multiple capacities, a compact wall-mounted design, and Hot-Start Programming to help minimize cold-water bursts during back-to-back use. Select RTG-95DVEL models also include EcoNet Wi-Fi connectivity and LeakGuard technology for added convenience and leak protection.

High Efficiency Non-Condensing Tankless Gas Water Heater

The Rheem RTG Series is a high-efficiency, non-condensing tankless gas water heater designed for residential applications. Depending on the model, the unit provides up to 199,900 BTU/h of gas input, a maximum flow rate of up to 9.5 GPM at a 35°F temperature rise, and a 0.82 Uniform Energy Factor (UEF).

Easy Installation

The Rheem RTG Series features an enhanced design that is up to 10% smaller and 22% lighter, helping simplify handling and installation. The unit offers up to 43 feet of vent run capability and universal venting compatibility with select approved venting systems, making it suitable for new installations and compatible tankless water heater replacements.

A 1/2-inch side-to-side clearance provides added installation flexibility in tight spaces. The series also supports 1/2-inch gas-line compatibility, subject to local code requirements and installation conditions.

h3>Hot-Start Programming

Rheem's exclusive Hot-Start Programming keeps the unit in a ready state between back-to-back hot-water usage, helping minimize cold-water bursts.

Precise Temperature Control

The Rheem RTG Series offers an adjustable temperature range of 100°F to 140°F, with a factory temperature setting of 120°F. The unit has a minimum activation flow of 0.4 GPM and a minimum continuous flow of 0.26 GPM.

Durable Heat Exchanger

The Rheem RTG Series features a copper primary heat exchanger for on-demand water heating. The non-condensing design does not use the stainless-steel secondary heat exchanger found in certain condensing models. The series also provides freeze protection down to -30°F intake air temperature and -4°F ambient temperature, under the conditions specified by Rheem.

Ultra Low NOx

The Rheem RTG Series meets 14 ng/J NOx requirements and is SCAQMD Rule 1146.2 compliant.

Built-In Digital Display

The Rheem RTG Series features a built-in digital display for convenient system control and temperature adjustment. It operates on a 120V, 60Hz power supply, with maximum power consumption of 85W during normal use, 132W during antifreeze operation, and 3.5W in standby.

Smart Controls & Leak Protection Available on Select Models

The RTG-95DVELN-3 and RTG-95DVELP-3 feature built-in EcoNet Wi-Fi technology and the LeakGuard Leak Detection and Prevention System. These features provide connected control and added protection against leaks originating from the water heater. They are not included on the RTG-70DVLN-3, RTG-70DVLP-3, RTG-84DVLN-3, RTG-84DVLP-3, RTG-95DVLN-3, or RTG-95DVLP-3.

Indoor Installation

All eight models are designed for indoor installation. As non-condensing tankless water heaters, they do not require the condensate connection used by condensing models. Each unit uses a 3/4-inch NPT gas connection, a 3/4-inch NPT hot-water connection, and a 3/4-inch NPT cold-water connection. Installation must follow the applicable model's instructions and local codes.

Flexible Venting Options

The Rheem RTG indoor series supports approved 3-inch by 5-inch concentric venting with a maximum straight-pipe vent run of up to 43 feet. Approved venting materials and configurations must follow Rheem's installation instructions. The maximum allowable vent length decreases when elbows are used.

Warranty

The Rheem RTG Series includes a 15-year limited heat exchanger warranty, a 5-year parts warranty, and a 1-year labor warranty, subject to the manufacturer's warranty terms and conditions.
