Customer Questions
What is the main purpose of the Rupp Air Modular Direct-Fired Heater?
It is a high-efficiency make-up air unit designed to replace exhausted air in commercial kitchens, industrial facilities, and warehouses. It draws fresh outside air, heats it directly in the airstream with near 100% thermal efficiency, and tempers the space to prevent drafts and negative air pressure.
What is the difference between direct-fired and indirect-fired heating?
Direct-fired heaters burn gas directly within the supply airstream, delivering nearly 100% thermal efficiency without needing a heat exchanger or flue stack. Indirect-fired units use a heat exchanger to keep combustion gases separate from supply air, which lowers efficiency to around 80–82%.
What fuel types can this unit run on, and what is its turndown ratio?
It operates on Natural Gas (NG) or Liquid Propane (LP). Its stainless steel line burner features up to a 30:1 turndown ratio, allowing fine heat modulation on mild days without constantly cycling the system on and off.
How does the unit maintain proper airflow and clean combustion?
It utilizes self-adjusting, spring-loaded profile plates around the burner. These plates automatically adjust to supply air velocity changes (such as 2-speed or variable air volume systems) without requiring external motors or actuators, ensuring an optimal air-to-gas ratio at all times.
The fan runs, but the burner fails to ignite or stay lit. What should I check first?
Verify that the airflow proving switch is closing, gas shut-off valves are open, and supply gas pressure meets nameplate minimums. If the flame lights briefly and dies, clean the flame sensing rod with emery cloth to remove oxidation or dirt interfering with the flame signal.
