What are Split Systems?

The phrase 'split system' in HVAC refers to a type of air conditioning or heat pump system that is divided into two main components: an indoor unit and an outdoor unit.

There are different types of split systems, ducted and ductless systems. Ducted split systems use ductwork to distribute air throughout the building, while ductless systems deliver air directly into the rooms without utilizing ductwork.

Ductless and Ducted Systems

Ductless split systems are called mini splits and those include: standard mini split systems with up to 8 zones, DIY mini split systems with up to 5 zones, and high efficiency mini split systems. These systems are comprised of separate units that include heat pumps (condensers) and air handlers.
